Day 1: Here’s Me Being Honest

My first PB Meal. Oatmeal with bananas and blueberries

My first PB Meal. Oatmeal with bananas and blueberries

I am a Skeptic. and Proud of it.

I feel the need to assure you, Dear Reader, that I am not a Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Flexitarian or any other kind of -Atarian.

Here is just some of the food I love:

  1. Milk. (And it’s kinda silly to call anything from an almond or bean “milk,” isn’t it?) I was raised on cereal & milk (all the best ones started with “Sugar”). It’s heaven to reach for a warm cinnamon bun, a stack of buttery, syrupy pancakes, warm bread, warm cookies, cake or pie…and a cold glass of MILK.

  2. Meat. A juicy hamburger, a crispy steak, pink in the middle, heck, even chicken. Love it all.

  3. Almost anything from a Pig. Pig is more than just meat. It’s God’s gift to us, right? Bacon, pork, ribs, ham…Thank You, God. (My dad, by the way, ate pickled pigs’ feet. Never saw the need to go that far.)

  4. Nachos. Pizza. Beer. Krispy Kreme donuts (but only fresh off the conveyor), again, with milk.

Oh. I could go on. And on.

But you get the point, don’t you? I enjoy so much food, and so much about food. So understand when I say,

I simply cannot believe that anything made of plants will compete in any way with any of the above.

But I walk into this 22-Day Challenge with an open mind. And so, as we begin today with a bowl of…oatmeal with a smattering of fruit on it (and NO milk), here are…

My Top 10
Fears/Complaints/Expectations
About PB Eating

10. Almost every single Vegan I have ever met has been surly and/or superior. I really hope plants do not cause this.

9. I am worried that I will be hungry and grouchy.

8. I honestly do not expect anything PB will compare in taste to “regular food.”

7. It bugs me when “they” call things milk and chocolate and steak when it’s really just a plant. Come on!

6. I do like trying new things, so I plan to approach this as an adventure. A green, leafy, tasteless adventure. Ha.

5. I promise to have an open mind. I’ll be skeptical, but not cynical.

4. I promise that, if something is true, I’ll change my habits accordingly.

3. I can’t imagine how eating at restaurants is going to work. Salad, anyone?

2. I’m really worried that I won’t lose any weight. And then what do I do?

1. …Which is why I will really, really try to do my best over the next 22 Days. It’s gotta work.

And away we go!

Something you can do right now:

  • Watch Gamechangers on Netflix. Seeing Arnold convinced me to give this thing a shot.

  • Join us! Start eating more plants, less fun stuff (you know what I mean.)

  • Leave a comment! What are your PB-presuppositions? Or, just encourage Heidi and me.
