Arrival

It’s 1am, and we just arrived in our Ecuadorian drug lord’s house (okay—former drug lord’s house. He’s in a different big house now.)

It was a great feeling to walk out of Customs and, in the sea of brown faces, see three that we knew. One of the faces wasn’t too brown, as Emily is American. But the point is, it was great to see these young’uns waiting for us. I only just met them in September, but they’re a lot of fun and left quite an impression on us when we were last here. One of the best things about travel-making friends of people who are so unlike you. It really adds to your life.

We had great flights, except that I had a middle seat. But it was good for my patience and humility-building. After being crammed into a middle seat for four hours, I can now proudly say I have achieved humbleness.

So, here we go. We’re here for four days, and our mission is simple: to shoot enough video to accurately and compellingly tell the story of this new non profit organization here in Guayaquil. The end result will be a six minute mini-documentary, six days of multimedia curriculum, and a two minute trailer. Thankfully, the scripts are already written. All we need to do is find the shots that paint the picture.

Zack and I are tired, and tomorrow morning comes early. But, if I had to be honest, I’m excited about being here, and having this opportunity to make a difference in getting this community closer to Good.
Makes you feel alive.
